About

Combatting the Challenges of Hearing Impairment

We are not profoundly deaf – but we don’t hear as well as we used to.  Hearing impairment so often creeps up on us. Before we know it we find we are shunning social occasions because we weren’t enjoying them anymore, but not realising why. The sense of isolation this brings on is invidious, and is also very difficult for our family and friends to cope with too.

Our aim is to help you rise to the challenges presented by hearing impairment and for you to enjoy learning how to improve the quality of your life.

We do this by:

  • Holding regular meetings twice a month to give you a chance to meet with fellow hard of hearing friends and share experiences, and we run other social events. Go to the Events page for our full programme of events.

At our regular meetings we have sessions practising lip-reading. Click here for more information about lip-reading.

  • Keeping an index of resources. These may be useful articles, information about other organisations, equipment catalogues, special facilities for the hard of hearing, where to go to get your hearing aids serviced and so on. Click here for our library index.

  • Providing an annual course entitled “Managing Your Hearing Loss” which is ideal for those who are just getting used to new hearing aids.  It provides an introduction to lip-reading and covers strategies for coping with typical social events.  Click here for details.
